Sticking to his east-coast roots, he started his education off at Acadia University where he received his Kinesiology degree. He decided to combine this education with his love of sports, leading him to become an Athletic Therapist through Sheridan College. Byron has been fortunate enough to work with many athletes of all levels, ranging from recreational athletes to professionals, including time working in the American Hockey League.

With a desire to always learn more about how the body works, Byron continued his education at the Canadian College of Osteopathy, where he completed a five-year program and successfully defended his thesis. His thesis project studied the effects of osteopathic treatments on balance in the senior population. Byron has also completed his massage therapy diploma at the Ontario College of Health and Technology, given him the title of Registered Massage Therapist.

In the over 20 years of being a therapist, Byron has completed many post-secondary courses including endocranial spasms, various pediatrics courses, advanced muscle energy techniques and soft tissue release.  Combining all of his credentials and courses, Byron uses an integrated approach to best suit his patients’ needs, including the incorporation of exercise programs that compliment treatment.

Byron has a strong desire for science and using evidence-based approaches to treatment. He has served twice as a member of the thesis jury at the Canadian College of Osteopathy and is a strong advocate for improving scientific knowledge for the field of rehabilitation. Byron translates the scientific knowledge and his evidence-based approach to educate and empower his patients.

Byron’s dedication to his patients was recognized when he was voted Barrie’s favorite osteopathic practitioner in 2019. He was extremely honoured and humbled for the recognition.

In his spare time, Byron enjoys sports of all kinds including squash and hockey. He also enjoys running and has completed several half marathons. Byron’s favourite race to date has been the Star Wars half marathon at Disney that he completed in 2019. He is hoping to do a couple more races in the near future.
