When a person has the sensation of movement or perceives surrounding objects to be moving when they are stationary, they are said to be experiencing vertigo. Vertigo can be very uncomfortable and unsettling. It commonly feels like a spinning or swaying movement when you are staying still. Vertigo can be associated with nausea, vomiting, headache, difficulty with balance, and sweating.
BPPV is a form of vertigo that arises from an issue with the inner ear. BPPV can occur when you roll over in bed, bend over to tie your shoes, or as a result of other changes in position of the head. BPPV is characterized by a spinning sensation that usually lasts less than one minute and is associated with nausea.
